I Have Lost My Tail

Through this mural I would like to pass on a message about care, belonging, sharing and connection. Today more than ever we are undoubtedly facing an ecological crisis that sadly affects the whole planet, and that is why I decided to depict these animals as part of the project. The wall chosen for the mural is part of the Faculty of Science, and I find it fitting that it should be hosted by a university, because that is where research, the study of the environment and the future lie. The new generations coming out of these studies will have the chance to improve our world. On the mural we find the European lynx, sadly endangered but protected in Bohemia, one of the few places in Europe where the lynx still lives. I also depict the great white egret, typical of your region. Both animals wear necklaces that seem to belong to another, ancient civilisation. They are symbols of an imaginary past when humankind and nature moved in the same direction. They are an invitation to search deep within ourselves and to rediscover harmony with our wild side. On the right we find a catfish, because the fishing tradition in the Czech Republic is very long-lived and well protected. The university offers various courses on the subject, so it seemed right to include it. As a background to all of this we find a beech forest (treated graphically so that the figures stand out); Bohemia has beech forests that are unique in Europe. Besides the forest there are other lush plants framing the mural. The title of the work, “I LOST MY TAIL”, relates to an exhibition running until the end of September at Galerie Rabenstejnská in České Budějovice as part of the Art in the City 2025 festival.
