Art in the City 2022

This year's fifteenth anniversary spurred the organisers to try something new, and so Art in the City has gained a new epithet: “in the landscape”. The reason is this year's theme, “FAUNA AND FLORA”, which besides the title has also brought a shift in space.

This year the festival therefore reaches further into open nature and landscape, and it will mark its fifteenth birthday among other things with a sculpture symposium at Pasečná in the Šumava, not far from the Lipno reservoir. The symposium will produce six sculptural benches for chosen sites, which will then remain permanently installed around Pasečná.

Besides the Šumava landscape, the sculptures will this year enter eight towns and villages. Once again the festival brings into public space work by major Czech sculptors such as Michal Gabriel, who will show a stainless steel horse on the main square in Budějovice, and Jaroslav Róna with his bronze sculpture Man and Dog. But new artists will present their work as well — Nikola Mojsl, for instance, whose shark will stand in front of the Water Tower and whose lion will walk through Veselí nad Lužnicí. Others are Adam Velíšek with his dogs in Tábor and Štěpán Jílek, who is sending an octopus out on reconnaissance at Lipno.
