The eleventh edition of the sculpture exhibition Art in the City is spreading into further South Bohemian towns this year. It is a fine thing that this time you can follow the sculptures down the Vltava, in your mind and in reality alike.

We begin in Černá v Pošumaví — do not miss the project made of recycled PET bottles from the PETMAT workshop in cooperation with the Czech Technical University, lit from within at night, or the weather-vane sculpture. At Lipno, sail out to Rabbit Island, where you can have a picnic in the lap of the sculptures. In České Budějovice, among others, many well-known names will show their work — Čestmír Suška, Michal Gabriel, Václav Fiala, Jaroslav Róna and Milan Cais at Galerie Mariánská. From Budějovice you can climb up Kleť to a sculpture by Ondrej 4. Around Hluboká you can enjoy a proper “tour de art” of sculptures suspended above the cycle path; further installations can be found on the grounds of the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery at Hluboká Chateau and by the Ohrada hunting lodge.

Or a spiritual sculpture by Antonín Kašpar at the Munický pond. As cooling water, the Vltava also flows through the Temelín nuclear power plant, where we have another stop — for sculpture and for video: on 6 June there will be a video performance by Milan Cais. In Týn nad Vltavou, walk out onto the footbridge guarded by a figure by Jakub Flejšar, and a little further on, to Mitrowicz Chateau for Miroslav Straka's Women and Greyhounds. From the Vltava you can go upstream along the Lužnice to Veselí nad Lužnicí, where the last two installations stand.
