Aries

Born in San Miniato in 1994, she studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, where she gained both her bachelor's and master's degrees in the field. Today she is a sculptor working mainly in marble and terracotta. Her artistic research starts from observing the human figure, often female, engaged in some activity. Her figures look as though caught in a moment or absorbed in contemplation of whatever has taken their attention. Although the works are often figurative, a free and reshaped anatomy appears in them, giving the figures a dreamlike, unreal character. The artist is not interested in depicting reality as it is, but in evoking a mental image, akin to a particular state of mind. In the work I Lost My Tail, the sculptures show female bodies in relation to wild animals which, in contact with them, begin to resemble these women. Geese, a fox and a hare take natural positions that recall women lying down and absorbed in contemplation of nature. The artist understands the exhibition's title as an invitation to reconnect with our inner animal state, which often surfaces in the moment of wonder at the sight of a wild animal appearing before us as if by magic — if we fall silent and try to watch. Aries is a sculpture Anna originally made in marble and then scanned with a 3D scanner; the data was then used to 3D print the enlarged head of Aries in concrete, produced by the Scoolpt studio in České Budějovice.
