Art in the City 2019

The shared aim of this year's artistic search is to define the possibilities of 3D technologies for artistic and experimental work, and to set the objects in the context of a place or a landscape.

A robot is only a tool of the present and the future, just as an angle grinder or a hammer and chisel were before. It always depends on the artist — on how well they can use the tool and how much of their own invention and creativity they can put into it.

Worldwide, 3D concrete printing is still mostly experimental and a subject of research. Visitors to the 12th edition of Art in the City therefore have a rare and unique chance to be present at the first presentation of 3D concrete printing in public space. The possibilities of 3D printing will be shown through examples of artworks and street furniture.

Art is a reflection of society, and society today faces great challenges and changes. Whether it is the mass arrival of robots and autonomous technologies, or overproduction in general and the question of waste that comes with it, choking the space we live in. Art in the City is not an activist association, but in the language of artists and architects it offers a different way of seeing the world around us. We do not take the present state of things and the changes around us as a threat, but as a challenge. A challenge to live in context, to responsibility, to creativity and to freedom.
