Art in the City 2015

The Art in the City exhibition has become a tradition. For this eighth edition I approached 10 artists across generations and across very different approaches. The exhibition is a celebration of sculpture and of working with form and material, and for the summer the city becomes an outdoor gallery for showing sculpture.

In České Budějovice and at Hluboká there will be 18 installations by renowned Czech sculptors: Kurt Gebauer, Veronika Psotková, Diana Winklerová, Alexandra Koláčková, Cyril Hančl, Jiří Plieštik, Barbora Hapalová, Eva Roučka, Petr Fidrich and Michal Trpák.

Besides the sculptures in the city, this year's exhibition should also introduce the individual artists and their work more closely, thanks to a new gallery opening in the former Mariánská barracks. The opening, subtitled Art in the City, will take place on 21 July at 18:00 and the exhibition catalogue will be presented there as well.

Thanks to the cooperation established with the gallery's owners it is possible to look further into the studios of the individual artists, who present their work more closely in the form of solo shows in the separate rooms of the gallery.

The aim of Art in the City is to bring contemporary sculpture closer to the general viewer, to the tourist, to the resident of Budějovice. Because art comes out into the streets to meet people, brings new subjects for discussion and new stories to places we have long stopped noticing. That impulse can then lead viewers to the Mariánská Barracks Gallery, where they can let themselves be carried further on the wave of a sculptural dialogue.

So come and see the varied sculptural installations, which will entertain you and tell you stories too.
