Lumbricina – a Budějovice Endemic

A world first: a newly discovered industrial creature inhabiting the underground of Budějovice, which occasionally pokes out to the surface but is unknown to most of the city's people. The parable of the endemic species can be taken up and read on several levels. Alongside the obvious reading based on the purely physical likeness between a worm-like creature and a hot water pipe, a likeness can also be found between the role the worm plays in the ecosystem and the role heat distribution plays in the infrastructure of České Budějovice. Lumbricina, the Budějovice endemic, crawling out to the surface and disappearing underground again, works its way through the CITY and stirs feelings — not least through the contrast between industrial forms and the green plants it excretes into public space.
