Bloom

The sculptures present a bleak vision of a parallel universe in which the artist asks what will come after us. The concept of degrowth is a critique of the global capitalist system, which strives for constant growth at any cost and brings with it the exploitation of people and the devastation of the environment. At first glance the sculptures may look like a simple depiction of “blooming” in the form of flowers. But these blooms are not rendered realistically; they deliberately evoke balloons, which raises the question of whether all that will remain after human activity is a synthetic imitation of nature.
