Samson

A new Samson has arrived at the gate to the historic centre of České Budějovice. A huge mask made of branches of local willow and hazel has grown up by Rabenstejnská street, a new guardian at the foot of the tower there. It seems to keep growing and climbing the walls of the gallery, and to swallow everyone who dares to enter through its mouth.

Inside the gallery a site-specific installation was created from more than 200 plaster casts of the faces of visitors who, over one week in July, dipped their faces into local clay and left their imprint as part of the performance and artistic ritual Earth Baptisms.
