A Divided Society

In this work I gave substance to my innermost feelings about the dismal state of the virtual world. The sculpture occurred to me at the height of the presidential campaign in the Czech Republic, when disinformation, filth and vileness were at their peak. Sadly there has been no great calming in this (for some) anonymous world since then, so the sculpture is still current. Even if some social network logos no longer exist — the little bird is dead.

While looking for a form in which to express these feelings, I realised that social networks do not connect the world but divide it. A good servant, a bad master, I told myself. And the idea and the form were there. The social networks are rendered as pictograms on the handle of a dominant, striking axe that is literally splitting the globe, which is also treated in a simplified way. With sculptures and installations that touch on current subjects I like working with pictograms, because they can be a clue to understanding the work.

The sculpture was made at the Mladá Boleslav Metal Symposium.
