Simon Martin

Simon Martin was born in 1993 in Vichy, France. He grew up in the Puy-de-Dôme department in the Auvergne region, where he now also lives and works. He studied at the Brussels art schools La Cambre and ERG (École de Recherche Graphique) and then at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee.
Martin’s work centres on welded metal sculptures — “machines” assembled from collected metal parts that question the notions of usefulness and necessity and sit somewhere between archaism and a low-tech aesthetic. His work can be described along three thematic axes: minerality, wandering, and machines. Besides sculpture he also draws, paints and makes engravings.
Simon Martin is part of the European art network CreArt. In May 2026 he was selected by the curatorial committee of the Art in the City festival for a residency hosted by the České Budějovice 2028 organisation; the residency itself took place in May and June 2026.
