Markéta Váradiová

Markéta Váradiová (*1973, Jablonec nad Nisou) is a Czech sculptor, glass artist, painter and multimedia artist. She studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Costume Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou and at the Faculty of Art and Design of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where she completed the Glass studio under Pavel Mizera and the Natural Materials studio under Jaroslav Prášil. She completed her doctorate (Art.D.) in 2010 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. She teaches at the Faculty of Art and Design in Ústí nad Labem.

Her work focuses on spatial objects, light installations and working with glass, mirrored surfaces and optical phenomena. It is marked by geometric precision, a minimalist idiom and an exploration of the relationship between light, space and the viewer’s perception. Besides spatial work she also paints and writes for children.

She has shown her work in many solo and group exhibitions, for instance at the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK), at the U Dobrého pastýře Gallery in Brno and at an international symposium in Differdange, Luxembourg. Since 2019 she has formed, together with Iva Kolorenčová, the artistic duo Circumpunct, devoted to site-specific installations and conceptual projects working with light, space and glass.
