Marek Rejent

Marek Rejent was born on 1 December 1969 in Polička and is bound up with the village of Proseč in the Chrudim area, where his family comes from — a family that has worked wood and made pipes for several generations. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where from 1990 to 1997 he was in Professor Kurt Gebauer’s sculpture studio. He lives and works in Proseč.

Rejent is a member of the artists’ group Mothers and Fathers and helped establish the Museum of Pipes in Proseč. His work knowingly joins folk craft tradition with contemporary, often satirical subjects — it starts from the turned wooden toys made for centuries in the Hlinsko and Vysočina regions, but brings the subjects up to date. A characteristic feature of his work is recycling and “upcycling”: he makes sculptural objects, often with lighting elements, from worn-out electrical appliances, shavers and plastic bottles.

He has had solo exhibitions at the Pecka Gallery in Prague, at the Makráč Gallery, at the Chrudim Beseda and at Art Space NOV, among other places. In the public space of Proseč, the fountain with a rooster on the local square is his work.

At Art in the City 2025 in České Budějovice he showed the sculpture Skull on Piaristické náměstí and the object Sofa-Woman on Zátkovo nábřeží.
