Dominika Kunzová

Artist, designer, art tutor and curator. She comes from Slovakia and graduated from the ceramics studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Since roughly 2015 she has lived with her family in České Budějovice, where she moved with her husband with the intention of slowing down and stepping out of a demanding working routine. She works part-time as curator of the Municipal Gallery in Týn nad Vltavou; her approach emphasises humanity and relationships, and she sees a gallery in a small town as “a house for all generations”. In her free work she often focuses on function and relationships, working with social reality and with the political or social situation, while orienting herself towards inner experience in order to reach more general meanings; she makes site-specific installations responding to a particular place.

Works for the Art in the City festival in České Budějovice: “Love” (2020) — a flower installation of five letters on the meadow by Sokolský ostrov; “Memorials of the Present” (2021) — six memorial plaques bearing sentences taken from Instagram (“A long weekend in Rome”, “We believe in butter and real vanilla”) placed around České Budějovice and Hluboká nad Vltavou. Under the Sein label she has made a series of designed crosses as Christian symbols and is preparing her own mugs.
