Wimar van Ommen

Wimar van Ommen was born on 20 June 1994 in Rome and is of Dutch nationality. In 2013 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he studied painting. In 2017 he completed a placement at the Corsanini workshop in Carrara, where he learned to work with marble. In 2018 he gained his bachelor’s degree and then entered the sculpture programme at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, completing it in 2020.
After graduating he received a special jury commendation in the Love-eye Sculpture Park competition in Qingdao, China. In 2021 he took part in international symposia of monumental sculpture in Tuscany, Piedmont and Abruzzo in Italy. In 2022 he made a commemorative public work in white Carrara marble to mark the centenary of the founding of the Ecuadorian city of Manta. In 2024 he was chosen as one of six artists for the international sculpture symposium in Fanano, where he made the work “Transmutazione appenninica”.
He currently works as a sculptor in Carrara and teaches sculpture in Arezzo.
