Robert Buček

Robert Buček was born on 7 December 1979 in Uherské Hradiště. From 1996 to 2000 he studied the artistic working of ceramics and stone at the secondary technical school in Luhačovice. From 2001 to 2007 he studied sculpture at the University of Ostrava under Professor Marius Kotrba, and from 2006 to 2008 completed teacher training there. From 2009 to 2012 he completed doctoral studies in sculpture under Professor Janusz Kucharski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (Poland); in 2022 he was habilitated at the Polish academy (dr hab.). From 2007 to 2012 he worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Sculpture at the University of Ostrava, and since 2014/2015 he has led the ceramics studio in the Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education of Palacký University in Olomouc, where he teaches drawing and ceramics. He works in free art — with ceramics, stone, wood and site-specific installations (such as the object “Hideout” made of fired wooden beams, or the installation “A river is my favourite neighbour” made of three hundred and forty split glass panes).

He has had more than 25 solo and over 80 group exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Turkey, Latvia, the Netherlands and Spain, and has taken part in more than 40 international sculpture and ceramics symposia (2007–2025). In Olomouc he realised the exhibition project “4+1 / 3+kk”, connecting gallery and non-gallery sites in the city centre. He lectured at an international conference on drawing in Gdańsk as a representative of the European academies. At Art in the City 2024 he showed the work “Hideout” in České Budějovice.
