Petr Švolba

Sculptor and artist. He graduated from the sculpture studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Ostrava and completed a placement at the école supérieure des Arts Saint Luc Liège in Belgium.

His work focuses on examining and giving form to the relationships between urban and rural settings, between civilisation and nature. He left the city himself and lives and works in the countryside, which feeds directly into his work — he brings the themes of shared labour, humility and “farming” into his sculptures and material installations. He works with material installations and sculptural objects, using among other things ceramics and firing (in 2024 he took part in an exhibition with a working kiln).

Exhibitions (selection): 2019 — “Just below the Clouds”, a joint opening with Aleš Zapletal, Komedie Theatre / Prague Municipal Theatres; 2024 — “Peasant Concept” with the painter Filip Nádvorník, Dukla Gallery, Ostrava-Poruba (curated by Hynek Chmelař); 2024 — “Erasing the Boundaries of Time”, TIC Gallery, Brno (with Dana Balážová, Eva Brodská and Lucie Kralíková); “Genre Piece”, Gallery XY, Olomouc. He also spoke publicly on the sculpture of the Prague lion in a cage.
