Milan Ruso

Ing. arch. Milan Ruso is a Czech architect and artist. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague (1982). From 1982 to 1991 he worked at SÚRPMO, the State Institute for the Reconstruction of Historic Towns and Buildings. He is a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects. He founded his own studio, RUSO ATELIER, in 1987; it was formally established as a private company in 1992 and has been running for over 30 years, based in Prague 4 (Táborská 31). The studio rests on architectural, building and design professions and provides a full service from the building study through the design, author’s supervision and budgets to engineering; this is followed by detailed designs of interiors, gardens and the design of individual parts of the building, of furniture and of standalone objects. Among his interests he lists composing and recording music, nature, sport, painting, drawing and printmaking, and Japanese houses and gardens.

At Art in the City 2025 he made the large-format painting on concrete Gulls on both sides of the bridge over the Lužnice in Veselí nad Lužnicí. He chose the motif of gulls as a symbol of freedom and independence, with white and blue referring to celebration and to the sky; on his choice of subject he said: “I love South Bohemian nature and landscape.” He dedicated the work to the memory of the recently deceased architect Jaromír Kročák of Soběslav, his former classmate.
