Martina Klouzová – Niubó

Martina Klouzová-Niubó is an academic sculptor, restorer and teacher.

Studies: the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague (1984–1988), the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague — the studio of Professor Kurt Gebauer (1990–1992), the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague — the studio of Professor Karel Nepraš (1992–1996) and the studio of Assoc. Prof. Jiří David (1994–1995); in 1995 she received a French government scholarship to the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She works with alabaster, polystyrene, glass-reinforced concrete, stone, everyday objects and photography on textile; she reworks everyday objects and items of clothing into sculptural “stories” in unexpected contexts, and also experiments with photography — she photographs her sculptures and sets them against the photographs in her displays.

Thematically she deals with the role of women in the family and in society, with feminism, parenthood, motherhood and the search for meaning in life, with humour and a light touch.

Works in public space: the sculptural group Birds in front of the town hall in Liberec (2006), the sculpture Girl with Balloons for the New Town Hall in Liberec (2008).
