Martina Hozová

Martina Hozová is a Czech sculptor, restorer and teacher. She works in Hradec Králové and in Lukaveč near Hořice. She graduated from the Secondary Technical School of Sculpture and Stonemasonry in Hořice v Podkrkonoší, studied figurative sculpture in Karel Nepraš’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 1989 to 1995 and continued with postgraduate study in Petr Siegl’s restoration studio. She teaches at the school in Hořice. She is a figurative sculptor working with traditional subjects — the human figure, the head and the relief; she comes to terms with the inheritance of tradition and the challenges of the present through the grotesque, humour and criticism. She uses plumbing and industrial materials and, most recently, IT materials in particular (cables, connectors, transformers, parallel ports, guide wires), which enter the sculptures directly or through imprints. She combines ceramic clay, stucco, silicones, acrystal, Roman cement and metal.
