Kateřina Nováková

Architect, researcher and teacher, today Assoc. Prof. Ing. arch. Kateřina Sýsová, Ph.D. (she previously published as Kateřina Nováková). In 2008 she gained her Ing. arch. degree at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague; in 2004–2005 she spent an Erasmus exchange at TU Graz in Austria, from 2010 to 2015 she completed her doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture, and in 2011–2012 held a Swiss government scholarship (ESKAS) at ETH Zürich. She works at the Faculty of Architecture (Institute of Model Design) as a researcher and teacher in visual design and experimental architecture. She focuses on sustainable design from recycled materials, above all on the use of PET. In 2016 she co-founded the non-profit organisation PETMAT, devoted to research into recycled PET in design and architecture and to raising awareness about plastic waste, and in 2019 the sculpture and architecture studio Scoolpt, focused on 3D concrete printing, public space and art.

Her projects include the Experimental Studio, research into 150,000 PET bottles (parametric structures) and the PETOTEM art installations (including PETOTEM II for Art in the City in Černá v Pošumaví, 2018). For Art in the City 2019 she made, together with Michal Trpák, the object Drop on Lannova třída in České Budějovice (3D printing, PETMAT and Hyperion Robotics). The Scoolpt studio also took part in the 3D concrete printing of the sculpture Body of Sound by David Síla and Kryštof Vitner for Art in the City 2024. She is the author of more than eleven peer-reviewed publications on sustainable building and architecture from PET bottles (eCAADe proceedings and others).
