Jana Schlosserová

MgA. Jana Schlosserová (*1989) is a Czech sculptor. From 2004 to 2008 she studied stone sculpture at the St Agnes of Bohemia Secondary School of Applied Arts in Český Krumlov; from 2008 to 2014 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology, Sculpture Studio I. In 2011 she completed a placement at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara in Italy, co-founded the Jiří Putna Gallery in Brno (where she worked as a curator) and began working with Jan Vermouzek on photo-sculptures. In 2013 she completed a study stay at the School of Visual Arts in New York and founded Conceptual Carving (Manifesto of Conceptual Carving, 2015). She moves across classical media, which she combines at will. Her work develops on two parallel planes — in a reflection on the worlds of children and adults, and in giving form to mycorrhizal bonds: in the first she turns children’s toys into bizarre artefacts that reveal social and power relations in a sarcastically frightening way, and in the second she enters the invisible, many-layered relationships of fungi and plants.

She says of herself: “I mostly make sculptures. Or at least they are sculptures to me. Sewn, glued, modelled, carved… it doesn’t matter.” She lives and works in Dačice, is the mother of two children and teaches at a school of arts (she is listed among others as a tutor at the school of arts in Moravské Budějovice in the MenART academy 2024/2025).
