Eva Roučka

Czech artist, sculptor and designer. She studied at the Václav Hollar art school (applied graphics) and at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, in ceramics and porcelain. In 1979 she emigrated to France, where she spent three years as a professor’s assistant at the prestigious Paris school ENSAAMA (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art), and then worked freelance. She lived and worked in France from 1979 to 2014. She works mainly in ceramics, but also makes monumental wooden sculptures with a chainsaw and works with stone. Her energy and her range in the design of ceramics, porcelain and glass led to collaborations with prestigious French and European companies — for thirty years she designed crystal for DAUM and Cristal de Sèvres; she has won a number of awards for designs for various manufacturers, among them “Design of the Year” for cutlery.

Her works are represented not only in Europe but also in Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Japan. At the end of 2014 she returned to the Czech Republic and settled in Břasy in the Rokycany area, where she works and holds annual symposia, exhibitions, concerts and cultural events in her gallery; among other things she made a painted wall there.

She is a member of the Association of Ceramic Artists (SVUK). She took part in the exhibition Phenomenon B marking the 130th anniversary of the founding of the ceramics school in Bechyně (2014, International Museum of Ceramics Bechyně), in the Sculpture Line festival and in Art in the City 2022 (the works “Cherry Eater” and “Angels” in Bechyně). She has three children, who mostly live in France.
