Diana Winklerová

Diana Winklerová (*29 October 1983, Prague) is a Czech sculptor, multidisciplinary artist, musician and university teacher; she lives and works in Prague. From 2000 to 2004 she studied at the Václav Hollar art school in Prague, and from 2004 to 2010 at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, in Professor Kurt Gebauer’s studio of sculpture in all its forms (MgA.). She completed placements and residencies at the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, Department of Comprehensive Design (2007–2008), the Egon Schiele Art Centrum in Český Krumlov (2012), Edinburgh College of Art as a tutor in portrait modelling (2014) and the Skaftfell Art Centre, Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, as part of the Frontiers of Solitude project (2015). At the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design she works as a tutor in modelling and drawing, and she also teaches animation and digital media at the school of arts in Řevnice.

In her free work she uses a wide range of media — sculpture, installation, object, painting, drawing, design, digital photography and video; she uses the ready-made principle and diverse materials, with nature, landscape and sensory perception as her subjects.

Awards: the Josef Hlávka Prize (2010), 1st place in the international design competition Young Package (2011), repeated wins in the portrait competitions of the Sculptors’ Association (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023). Besides her art she is a professional musician (oboe, cor anglais, flute, Chinese dizi and xiao); from 2010 to 2020 she played in the Smíchov Chamber Philharmonic and in 2010 co-founded the Prague Club of Silk and Bamboo Music.
