David Moješčík

David Moješčík (*25 July 1974, Frýdek-Místek) is a Czech sculptor and artist. He also uses the artist’s pseudonym MojDa.

He trained as a stonemason in Žulová, then studied at the Secondary Technical School of Sculpture and Stonemasonry in Hořice and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology under Vladimír Preclík and Michal Gabriel. In 1998–1999 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Jan Hendrych, and then completed his studies in Brno under Michal Gabriel. In 2002 he gained his MgA. degree and the Josef Hlávka Prize. In 2004–2005 he taught at the Secondary School of Art in Ostrava, and since 2004 he has worked as a freelance artist. In 2007 he took part in a creative residency in Ireland as part of The Cill Rialaig Project.

His work focuses on figurative sculpture, above all the female figure. He finds inspiration in yoga, in ancient and Egyptian art and in European classicism. His sculptures are marked by clean lines, harmonious proportions and an emphasis on the human touch, even though he also uses modern technology. Alongside small-scale work he has long devoted himself to sculpture in public space, to portraits and to works with strong symbolism.

Since 2006 he has worked with the architect Michal Šmeral on public art projects. Among his most important works are Levitation in Ostrava-Svinov (2010), the monument to Leoš Janáček (2017), the sculptures of Karel Kryl and Věra Špinarová (2018) and the monument to Operation Anthropoid. In 2022 his sculpture Levitation III was selected for the prestigious international NordArt exhibition in Germany. In 2024 the bronze sculpture Eve, inspired by yoga and by the biblical story of the mother of humankind, was unveiled at the Čeladná rehabilitation centre.
