Barbora Masaříková

Czech artist and sculptor. As a child she attended the school of arts in Náměšť nad Oslavou under Jan M. Krejčí. From 2006 to 2010 she studied at the Secondary School of Art and Design in Brno. She then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 2010 to 2013 in Jaroslav Róna’s Sculpture I studio, and from 2013 to 2016 continued there in Lukáš Rittstein’s studio; in 2012–2013 she completed a semester placement in the Academy’s Šaloun studio for a visiting foreign teacher, under Professor Nicole Wermers. In 2011 she made a work at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno as part of the Digital Sculptures project. She works chiefly in a conceptual vein; one of her basic ideas is that where an object is placed is often more important than the object itself, and that art should not be confined to galleries or private collections.

Solo exhibition: Jan Čejka Gallery, Prague (2018). Awards: Studio Prize of the Year, Lukáš Rittstein’s studio, Academy of Fine Arts Prague (2014 and 2016).

Works: the winning competition design for a school stand at the Brno Exhibition Centre (2009), the Builder of the Year prize for the magazine Stavebnictví (2008). A well-known work is “The Glowing Cow” near Mohelno (2011). Since 2020 she has run a craft workshop at the chateau in Náměšť nad Oslavou (leather goods, enamelled mugs, hand-painted signs); she is co-author of the book “Life in a Van — Our Story”.
