Barbora Hápalová

Barbora Hápalová is today known as Barbora Chládková. Born Pšenčíková, married as Hapalová from 2008 to 2013 (the name under which she exhibited at Art in the City 2015), she is now Chládková. She was born on 20 August 1979 in Prague and is a Czech figurative sculptor.

She passed through František Švancara’s ceramics workshop on Kampa in Prague. From 2000/2001 to 2007 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague — first in Petr Siegl’s studio of sculpture restoration, and from 2002 to 2007 in Professor Jan Hendrych’s studio of figurative sculpture and medal making. In 2005 she completed an Erasmus placement at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara in Italy. As a child she lived with her family in Brazil for about two years (between the ages of 12 and 14).

She makes figurative sculptures in epoxy, bronze, stone (marble, sandstone), ceramics and clay. Works (selection): “Snorting Horse” (epoxy) — shown at Art in the City 2015 as “Horse” on the canopy above the entrance to Galerie Mariánská in České Budějovice; “We Want To, But We Shouldn’t” (stone, her diploma work); the sculpture of St Barbara in Josefov, Jaroměřice (sandstone, a six-year project); “Seated” (bronze, the U Pudilů bakery, Slaný); “Dragonfly Being Born” (ceramics); “Portrait of My Mother” (Supíkovice marble); “Two” (sandstone, the Litoměřice symposium); “Expectant” (Cuban marble, the Dobřichovice symposium); and also “First Kiss”, “Lovers”, “Swinging Over”, “The Spirit of Brazil”, “On the Waves”, “Family”, “Side by Side”. She has taken part in symposia in Litoměřice, Dobřichovice and Lysolaje and in stays in Carrara and Colonnata in Italy.

Since 2011 she has been a member of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists, and from 2016 to 2025 was a member of the Sculptors’ Association of the Czech Republic. From 2012 to 2020 she taught modelling at the private international school of architecture ARCHIP (Architectural Institute in Prague); since 2010 she has run the personal development seminar “Principles of Life®”, and since 2024 she has taught art at the faculty primary school of the Faculty of Education of Charles University (Trávníčkova) and art preparation at Art Econ in Prague-Kobylisy.
