Alexandra Koláčková

Alexandra Koláčková (b. 12 April 1964 in Bruntál) is a Czech artist, sculptor and ceramicist. She graduated from the Faculty of Education of Palacký University in Olomouc (art education). In 1988–1989 she trained in a ceramics workshop; she then worked in ceramics for about ten years before moving to monumental work. The turning point was an outdoor commission in an architectural context, after which she has spent some thirty years concentrating on art in public space.

She makes colourful large-format sculptures in ceramics and concrete. Characteristic of her work are rounded shapes, strong saturated colour, oversized dimensions and playfulness; she makes sculptures primarily for public space, not for galleries. An important part of her work is unconventional children’s playgrounds and relaxation areas. Since 2015 she has worked with the ArtLines platform, which promotes art in public space.

Works: over thirty works in public space since 2001 — Prague, Liberec, Hradec Králové, České Budějovice, and also in the Netherlands (Amersfoort, Nijmegen) and Switzerland.
